Fortune, Cookie!
After we've sated ourselves with the Sczechuan spiced
chicken, pork fried rice, beef with broccoli and bean sprouts,
one of them hands me the last fortune cookie. The lot of them
have gotten theirs, have made mock of what could be
gleaned from their inscrutably generic fortunes. Their eyes
are lit with left-over greed, as I crack my cookie open
only to find no tiny strip with red-letter words, no
lottery numbers - just that hole where the luck should be.

Comment on the Process:
It's been said the best "light" poems have a tinge of darkness to them.
